Civilian Education System Application Process Changes

By Kyonna Withers
Army News Service

November 19, 2009 - Army civilian employees registering for Civilian Education System courses face a major change in the application process.

Those registering for classes of the Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced courses must now complete the distributed Learning (dL) course, or phase 1, prior to applying for a seat in the resident course, or phase 2.

In the past, employees could apply for the resident and dL courses at the same time. But now, the dL course had to be completed before attending the resident course.

More changes

While the dL course is valid for 365 days from registration, employees have six months to complete the course once they begin.

Once the dL course is complete, employees can apply for resident courses 60 days and beyond prior to the start date of the resident course.

Students with already approved reservations for resident courses will not need to reapply for the dL or resident course.
